ATV / Central TV Studios
ATV/Central TV Studios, Birmingham. Photographed in 2007 prior to demolition.
Notice the occasional 'BOMB' lights and poster, these studios were used in the height of the IRA campaign and any warning would trigger the lights.
Note also the underground tunnels for the basement and the substation, which I think was also linked to the Crowne Plaza next door.
There were 3 main studios, The first one, it was Huge, like massive, the 2nd was next to it and was where Tiswas was filmed, there was another large studio deeper into the complex where they filmed large news programs.
There is an image of a cinema (without seats) - This was to allow an audience in and watch an episode and laughter was 'canned' and played over the TV shows audio later.
The studios had a further life as a film set after closure when the TV series, Survivors used the complex to look like a hospital after a disaster. (these pics are at the end of the album and were photographed in 2009).
